About Smoke & Study
The Smoke & study started about 8 years ago. It was started with an atheist who wanted to start his journey reading the Bible. We loved cigars so it became a fitting context. We were very fortunate to have the blessing and support of the owner of the Smoking Cave. As we met, others began to join. Since then we've grown, sent out a missionary, and enjoyed great smokes together.
Where, and when
We meet at The Smoking Cave, 5435 Boatworks Dr, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.
We meet every Thursday evening around 7:30pm. Join us in the basement. Ask at the front for directions.
Please help out the cave by buying a cigar, or a drink along the way. Also, many join us later, leave early... so feel free to walk in.
Who's welcome?
Everyone is welcome to join us. You don't have to be a committed Christian, or even a believer of any sort. We welcome you to join us.
Male only? ... no way
While cigars tend to draw a mostly male crowd, women are invited to join.
Do I need to be a cigar smoker?
No, we have a number of friends who join that are not smokers. I suppose you should be warned that your clothes will carry that incense of heaven when you leave!
Do I have to know my Bible well?
No, we're all somewhere on the journey of understanding the Bible.
Do I have to be a certain denomination?
We are quite ecumenical. We have protestants, Presbyterians, Baptists, Catholics, and Orthodox.
We strive to find unity in the gospel of Jesus, His death and resurrection, and salvation in Him alone. Nevertheless, as you might imagine, we do have disagreements from time to time. We disagree respectfully, and in love.
Book Study
We study through Bible books alternating between Old and New Testaments. This allows us to take our time deeply engaging with the context, the implications for our lives, and have lots of fun rabbit trails.
Topical Study
In between book study we do a topical study based on what the group decides. This can be anything relevant to Christianity in its theology, or its practice. We've done many of these, they're always fun.
Fellowship
We never start on time. Usually, its because the brothers are deeply involved in each other's lives. We spend a good deal of time getting to know each other, praying for each other, and laughing.
